Plan a car-free holiday by testing the whole journey: arrival point to accommodation, accommodation to activities and the return route at the end of each day. A destination with a railway station is not automatically convenient for every part of your trip.

Use actual routes and dates to test the plan before reserving accommodation around it.

A slow travel itinerary gives you time to return to places, change your mind and spend ordinary hours in a destination. For a week away, one accommodation base can reduce the repeated work of packing, checking out and finding the next place.

That does not make one base right for every journey. Choose it when the places you most want to experience fit within a practical area.
